Our great time at Cape Kidnappers

What an awesome trip we had to Cape Kidnappers! We saw many amazing things like fault lines. The big red/ orange tractors towed us behind them on a trailor. A couple of times we got stuck in the sand! Oh no! We saw a Seal sunbathing on the rock after he had anice refreshing swim. We had such an amazing time. Collin (Our tactor driver) found us some volcanic ash to feel. It came all the way from Taupo in the last volcanic eruption. We had to walk up a really big, steep hill for 25 minutes to reach the Gannet Colony. We saw lots of Gannets and some of us collected broken eggs and feathers. Thank you to the amazing parents who came on our trip to help us. More photos to come!

Aaron the star Writer

Aaron wrote the most amazing story this week. Our Writing prompt was a video clip about a grey world that suddenly turned colourful. Can you can find the Simile in his Writing? Well done Aaron!

One day I wake up to my whole world turned grey. I jumped out  of bed and put on my grey-uniform and I ate my grey breakfast. I felt glum because everything was boring.I jump in the car  and went to school.

I Looked out the window I saw a spaceship. I said goodbye to my mum and walked to school. I saw the spaceship again and a ball came out of the bottom. And........everything turned colourful. It was as colourful as a rainbow.
I felt bubbly and excited. I was free
I grabbed onto the  spaceship and it landed on a planet it was like the future. It was amazing! I started walking around and the aliens started looking at me. I brought a motel and stayed there for two weeks. I went out of the motel and I got a job. My job was sidewall fixing
I used my money to buy me new clothes. I went to the beach except  this beach was different. The water was hot and the sand looked like suns. I went to the pet shop and brought a mutant dog.

I decided to stay on their planet.I lived happily ever after.

Writing in Room 7

This afternoon we had a look at the Writing Matrix the Teachers and Miss Smith have been working hard at creating.  It is all in kids speak so we can understand it. First we discussed it as a class and then we worked in groups to look at a peice of writing and find evidence of how they were meeting the 2B level. Check out how well we work collaboratively in groups.

Oh no! Room 7 has been taken over by spiders!

There is spiders everywhere in our classroom! Over the holidays the spider that was hiding in Miss Boaler's bag from last term crawled out and layed its eggs all around our classroom. The 26 eggs hatched today and we now have lots of baby spiders crawling all around our room. Miss Boaler screamed when she saw all the little spiders. She hates them! The 26 spiders made a huge web on our classroom wall.

Our new table!

Look at our awesome new green table. We arrived at school today to find a low table and six cookie pads in our classroom. We like to sit around the table and do our work. We are even allowed to use cookie pads on the mat. We love our new table. Thank you Mr Pearse for buying us this lovely flash table!

Our amazing interschool Cross Country Runners

Wow Room 7 has some amazing runners! We had 3 children attend the interschool Cross Country against hundreds of other children. They did an amazing job representing our school. Yuri came 60th, Marni came 38th and Josh came 6th! Well done you three!

Our Black and White day

On Wednesday we had the Ranfurly Shield come to Mahora School. We were allowed to dress up in our very best White and Black to show our support to our favourite team. Some of us were even lucky enough to get our tops signed by a real Magpie player! Thank you so much to Gareth and Simon for coming to show us the shield. Check out some photos from the day.

ASB Get Wise

Today Room 7 had a Personal Trainer from ASB to come teach us all about money. We went back in time and met Cave Man, a Pirate and a D.J that had a rap for us. We learnt that money has changed from trading goods to coins then to notes. Nowdays we have EFTPOS Cards that are cards that hold all our money thats in the bank. We learnt we need to spend some on you and save some to. Shop around to get the best deals.

Parents we suggest you spend some on you and save some to! ( and some spend some on us :) )

Our amazing Production Similes

We have been learning about Simlies in Room 7. Similes use as or like to compare two different things. Today we wrote about Production. Check out all the amazing Similies we came up with.

I was red like a berry

Our singing voices were as loud as a horn

The juice as sweet as Jelly.

I was as proud as if I got 100 certificates.

I was as hot as a sizzling hot sausage

The lights were as bright as the sun

I felt like a balloon up in the sky.

The camera was as collapsing as a mouse trap

I was as cold as a popcicle

I was looking as wobbly as a Jellyfish when I went on stage.

I was as still as an statue

I was red as a red strawberry

The lights were as dark as chocolate

My feet were as icy as an ice burg

Our singing was as loud as a bird chirping in the morning.

I was as small as a pen

I was straight as a stick

The light was as bright as the moon

As I got on the stage I felt as wobbly as jelly.

I was hot like a hot steaming chip

My feet are as cold as an ice berg
