ASB Get Wise

Today Room 7 had a Personal Trainer from ASB to come teach us all about money. We went back in time and met Cave Man, a Pirate and a D.J that had a rap for us. We learnt that money has changed from trading goods to coins then to notes. Nowdays we have EFTPOS Cards that are cards that hold all our money thats in the bank. We learnt we need to spend some on you and save some to. Shop around to get the best deals.

Parents we suggest you spend some on you and save some to! ( and some spend some on us :) )

Our amazing Production Similes

We have been learning about Simlies in Room 7. Similes use as or like to compare two different things. Today we wrote about Production. Check out all the amazing Similies we came up with.

I was red like a berry

Our singing voices were as loud as a horn

The juice as sweet as Jelly.

I was as proud as if I got 100 certificates.

I was as hot as a sizzling hot sausage

The lights were as bright as the sun

I felt like a balloon up in the sky.

The camera was as collapsing as a mouse trap

I was as cold as a popcicle

I was looking as wobbly as a Jellyfish when I went on stage.

I was as still as an statue

I was red as a red strawberry

The lights were as dark as chocolate

My feet were as icy as an ice burg

Our singing was as loud as a bird chirping in the morning.

I was as small as a pen

I was straight as a stick

The light was as bright as the moon

As I got on the stage I felt as wobbly as jelly.

I was hot like a hot steaming chip

My feet are as cold as an ice berg

Here is our Opitical Illusion artwork. We had to fold our paper in 4 different ways to make 6 lines. We then used vivid to make these lines bold. We had to go around and in very box and put one sad face then one happy face. Then we got to colour them in. Dont they look fantastic! Ask us to show you at home!

Cross country is coming!

We are busy training hard for cross country which is in 2 weeks. We have been running nearly everyday since the start of term. Today Rheanna was our gold trophy winner as she showed the right attitude and didn't stop once! If we are year 2 we have to run 1000m which is 2 laps of the distance track and if we are year 3 we have to run 1500m which is 3 laps of the distance track. We are working on running at an even pace and not stopping.

Production practise

Check us out busy practising hard for production. We are getting better with our timing the more work we do. Please keep helping us practise our words at home.

Super 7's amazing assembly item

On Friday the 8th of August it was Room 7's turn to share whats happening in our class at assembly. The school was very impressed with all the learning that has been happening in our class. We first shared our artwork that we did with Mrs Hill which was owls sitting in a tree. Emily and James then shared their Mihi Mihi's which are Maori introductions. Lastly we shared some of our red poems. We loved to share with the rest of the school and all spoke with confidence. Here are some photo's during our item. We hope the parents that could make it enjoyed it.

Our Peka Peka Trip

On Wednesday Room 7 along with Team Waru went on a trip to Peka Peka wetlands. We have been learning all about swamps in class and were all very excited to go. When we first arrived we met Steve who was from the council and was there to talk to us all about swamps. He talked about some birds that we may see while we were exploring like the Pukeko, Dabchick and the Australasian bittern. Do you know there are 4 Australasian bittern at Peka Peka and only 400 left in the whole world. Some of were lucky enough to see both the Dabchick and Pukeko while we were exploring which was awesome. All of us saw some black swans gliding along the water which was beautiful. After we explored we got to help Steve by planting flax plants in our groups. The ground was really hard which made it hard to dig but luckily we are strong and showed resilence and got them all planted. Some groups planted 7 plants! Here is a video of some photo's of our trip. We hope you enjoy it.

Our scary stories

Watch out parents these stories are very scary to listen to. In Room 7 we have been using pictures as prompts for our writing. Today our picture was of an old, creepy house. We have been working on adding detail to our writing to make it more exciting for our readers. We came up with lots of 'wow' words like haunted, ghosts and terrifying. We loved to write scary stories and the board of trustees were all very scared when they were reading them. Listen to some of us read our stories but make sure you have someone with you as they are VERY scary!

What we want to know about Peka Peka

We are so excited to go to Peka Peka next Wednesday! We started to wonder about what we might see and learn when we go. Check out our video of all our wonderings.

Writing in Room 7

In Room 7 we are learning to add in full stops, question marks and exclamation marks to our writing. Today we started to learn how to proof read and edit our stories all by ourselves to make sure they make sense. We have been underlining words we think are wrong and using our dictionaries to fix them. We are getting good at re reading our stories and adding in full stops that we have missed. We are starting to learn all about conjunctions which are joining words like but, and,  and because. Some of us have been putting conjunctions after full stops. How silly are we! We know now that we use conjunctions to join two sentences together and can never put them at the start of a sentence.

Check out our awesome editing we did together.

Our yummy bike wheel biscuits

On friday we made some yummy bike wheels out of yellow icing, 1 pebble and 5 snake lollies. We got to take them home and eat them for afternoon tea. They were delicious! They were crunchy when we bit into them.

Here we all are showing off our yummy creations. You should try making them at home because they are easy to make and so yummy!

Bike track opening

What an awesome way to end the first week of term 2 by opening our bicycle track. Aaron and Sheerai were the two stars of the week in Room 7 which meant they were the lucky ones that got to ride on it first. We  even had a surprise visitor come and see us! Her name was Ma- Hora and she was a CLOWN! We still don't know who Ma- Hora was but it was fun to try and guess. It was so funny to watch her try go around the pumptrack on her bike. It must have been pretty old because it was covered in cobwebs. Yuck! We cant wait to try out the bike track for ourselves.

Our cuddly last day of Term One

What better way to celebrate the end of Term One than to wear our PJ's to school. The children had such an amazing Term One with awesome attitudes towards their learning. We wanted to celebrate their success in a fun and interactive way on the last day of Term. We have been discussing what makes a good team member and what skills we need in order to be able to work together effectively. The Easter egg hunt was an awesome way to practise these skills and gave some children  the opportunity to have a go at being a leader. The children worked well in their teams and loved running all over the school to find the Golden eggs. What an awesome way to end such an amazing first term.

Brilliant end of term celebration

We were so lucky on the last day of term to get a visit from a special guest (THE EASTER BUNNY) came to see us all in our PJ's and gave us all an Easter egg. Thank you so much for visiting us Easter Bunny. What a special treat for the last day of Term One.

Week 10 star Writers in Room 7

Wow what fantastic writers we have in Room 7. We have been learning all about how adding detail to our writing makes it more exciting. Our detail cards in the front of our books helps us to remember all the important information that needs to go into our writing. We are working really hard at writing longer and more interesting stories. Our two star writers from last week were Tyrell and Javana who both worked hard at adding detail to their writing.

Our orchard trip to R.J Flowers

We were so fortunate to be able to go to Mrs Buckmans family orchard and have a look around. We saw lots of interesting things when we were there including being lucky enough to go into the coolhouse. Do you know its only -4 degrees in there!

It was so cool to stand under the Kiwifruit plants. We learnt that Kiwifruit grow on vines and hang underneath the branches and leaves to protect themselves from the sun and rain.

Here was our class with our lovely helpers. Thank you so much parents for coming in to help us we wouldn't have been able to go without you.

At the end of our trip we got to pick a apple to eat for morning tea. We learnt to get all the spray off it we had to rub it on our tops really hard. This was so much fun and made the apples go really shiny! We loved our orchard trip and seeing for ourselves all the things we have learnt about this term.

Room 7 are such a neat bunch of students I throughly enjoy getting to know their personalities and can quite happily say they are a pleasure to teach!

We are now busy establishing our routines and I am currently completing testing on each child to establish the learning needs. It is important that children are attending school each day as this data collected is recorded and shared with teachers school wide.

We are swimming each day and this is a part of our Physical Education programme. Its amazing to see the development the students have done already!

We will be updating our blog regularly to share students work and the exciting things happening in Room 7!

Look forward to meeting everyone at our Family Night on Tuesday!

Have a great weekend.

Kind Regards
We are wild about learning!
